Has The Stock Market Gone Parabolic?

Filed in Market Themes 3 comments

As an experienced investor, I’m starting to get nervous about the direction of the stock market!

You see, to my non-professional albeit experienced eyes, the market is starting to look a bit parabolic in nature. This is worrisome for me, although I still sleep fine at night.

At least it’s taking a breather lately by going sideways for a while.  I have to wonder if this is a good time to take some profits at such levels.  I’m not saying that the market will look like the graph below, but perhaps a smaller 10% correction in is the works?  Not sure.

Massive sell off in Muni Bond ETFs (ticker MUB) on the extension of Bush tax cuts. No need for tax advantaged bond funds

Here is what you don’t know about people like me… Some of us look for dips and get excited in that we’re able to buy investments at cheaper prices.  The trick is getting off the stock market horse at or near the top.  Nobody like to get off of the horse then have it continue to gallop upwards leaving us stuck waiting for the next dip or even worse getting left behind in limbo, scared to jump in for fear that right when we do decide to play along, the market then crashes.

Just a thought, no message or direct in what I say.

The market is definitely getting pricey after a 4 year run, but based on mathematical definitions, it is not parabolic.

As an old investor, my experience tells me that stock markets always behaves like a wave. If it is down now, it will be up later. If it is up now, it will be down later.
