More fuel to the fire on why I’m so bullish, from a purely making money standpoint, on the junk food and diabetes trade in emerging markets.
In 3 words: Room… For… Growth!
From a big picture standpoint, if I were a societal leader of a country like India or China looking to avoid the mistakes of Western societies, I’d try to resist the introduction “manufactured” foods as much as possible. Realistically speaking, though, that’s somewhat like standing in front of a freight train and asking it politely to not run you over.
Which is why, at least in my opinion, companies who make mind boggling delicious fast food brands (like Kentucky Fried Chicken – a.k.a. KFC) will do well on the Asian continent, and with their success, will drag along pharmaceutical companies who produce drugs that treat the symptoms (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.) but do not cure the disease. When it comes to the obesity trade and pouring on the pounds, I suppose the Fast Food Industry and Big Pharma can’t exist without the other.

So are U saying that it’s a good thing to let the fast-food industry into emerging markets and let the obesity epidemic continue so others can profit?
