Niall Ferguson’s popular book, The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World, made it’s debut as a documentary film tonight via PBS.
I will not bore or insult you by doing a review, because quite honestly, the film is so well done that it would take several days for me to write a review that I felt confident having anyone read.
Yes — it’s really that good!
Other than I.O.U.S.A: The Movie, it might be one best finance based documentaries I’ve ever seen.
So if you are a novice to the financial markets wondering just what the hell happened in 2008, or you’ve sat cluelessly watching the nightly news understanding a measly 20% of what was said, I highly suggest you check it out.
I don’t want to give away the entire plot, but it’s an excellent synopsis of how money came to be, how we used it, abused it, and eventually let our greed (nearly?) choke the life from our financial markets.
The Ascent of Money can be seen in it’s entirety at PBS.org by clicking here.
