I’ve finally found a chart that displays a side by side comparison of the tax plans from Presidential candidates Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain.
Many of my Republican friends won’t like this graphic from The Washington Post, but that’s just one of the many benefits of being an independent. My loyalties lie with no one, and I get to vote my conscious.
Not surprisingly, Obama’s tax plan involves tax increases on the high end of the salary range but comes with a few small percentage point tax cuts on the majority of the American middle class. McCain’s tax plan has more substantial tax cuts on the upper end of the salary range, but nonetheless, it’s a tax break for all American’s.
On a more personal note, I’ve found the sheer amount of confusion generated by the nonstop campaign ads and overall media blitz to be somewhat overbearing. Each candidate and their representative parties can apparently generate their own numbers, and somehow seem to pull their numbers – their saving grace statistics – from out of the clear blue sky or, dare I say, from their “nether region”.
Then again, if elections were straight forward and easy, we would not need to spend 300 million dollars on advertising and speeches to choose a President.
Regardless of your political affiliation, I hope you get something out of this chart prior to going to the voting booth.

You can actually get a good idea of the full taxes paid if you look at the “average change in taxes” column versus the percentage change.
Obama is still a some distance away from the comrade related nomenclature. Checkout the Socialist Party candidate’s interview on the Colbert Report last night if you want a good laugh.

A very good graphical representation of Comrade Obama’s “spread the wealth around” ideology. Tax breaks across the board are always better than sticking it to the rich folks so us “poor” folks can get a handout.
What that graph doesn’t show is how much those people actually pay in taxes. Only about 5-6% of that bottom 60% actually pay anything in.
